Travertine Hot Springs, California

We finally made it to California! As we crossed state lines I was so looking foward to seeing that "Welcome to California" sign...I looked for that thing for miles and miles. But we didnt get one. Every other time we crossed state lines there was a sign and the feeling was so glorious, and I knew that California sign would be the best feeling out of all of them. I guess HWY 6 isn't fancy enough for a welcome sign. Hwy 6 was beautiful. The road lead us through some amazing trees and we came around Mono Lake. Our first stop in Cali was Travertine Hot Springs just outside the little town of Bridgport, only an hour or two from the border. I had never been to a natural hot springs, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The place was incredibly beautiful and the water was awesome. Free hot springs? I am so stoked that these things exist.
You have to drive up a good ways on a dirt/sand/gravel road to get to the spot. And it was challenging for both of us...that front wheel does scary things when going over sand. Anyway, the water was great. The natural spring water was piping hot and flowing down these gorgeous rocks into the pools.

However, the pools were not as hot as the trickling water, they were mostly lukewarm. We soaked for a little while until the sun started to go down and then headed to our camp spot just up the dirt road. While we were preparing to leave, we met a gentleman who shared his stories with us of bicycling across China by himself! Sounds like an amazing adventure. Our camp spot was almost as good as the view at the hot springs pools. In the night we heard coyotes howling and we were both a little creeped out, so Mim took charge and established our territory around the tent! We had the fasted record time that morning of packing up all our gear. So fast, we forgot to get pictures of the campsite...wont be the last time we forget either.
