We made it to Oregon!! Our first spot, recommended by an old friend, was down a nice road through the hills and along the Illinois River. We camped under the 8 Dollar bridge and enjoyed the views and sounds of the gently rushing water.
As you can see, if you look closely, we set up proper for bear protection. I learned all about the perimeter technique and felt much more at ease once it was up. The pictures certainly don't do justice, but the views of the river with mountains behind were gorgeous. It's a little hard to tell because of the smoke...the fires were raging in the forests not far off.

Last night in Cali - Fern Canyon
We stayed in Gold Bluff Beach campground, a few miles away from the Fern Canyon trail head. We shared our camp spot with a nice couple who drove a long way to stay there...but there were no more campsites available so we offered ours. We got a great discount on the fees and a free dinner and campfire out of the deal! The hike up Fern Canyon was out of this world...
The canyon walls were just covered in endless fern growths, the most healthy and beautiful plants I ever did see...
A small creek ran through the canyon and many downed trees blocked the paths. We scrambled our way over them and enjoyed the old school style little bridges that had been placed over the deeper parts of the creek. It sure was an adventure.
The hike ended up being a bit shorter than Mim had remembered, it definitely ended way too soon...so much beauty just hidden away in the world. It was so amazing to see this place. Goodbye Fern Canyon! I hope we meet again

From the Tip of an Arrow to the Goddess Athena
We stayed with friends Scott and Amber for about 5 days, just outside of Arcada, Ca. Their two lovely children, Arrow and Athena kept us entertained while we ate good food and spent our time maxing and relaxing at the wonderful house in the woods. Mim made some amazing polenta dinner for us on our last night...
And next morning we said our goodbyes...
Before we parted, Athena picked out here very own necklace from my collection...and she looked pretty darn cute
Thank you Scott and Amber so much for your hospilality and friendship! Hope we meet again soon.
